About Me
KEVIN WU, M.Div.
Hi! I’m Kevin. I’m a spiritual director, which is just a fancy way of saying a spiritual friend or companion that accompanies you on your journey with Jesus.
As a spiritual director, I strive to care for the entire individual, focusing in on how all aspects of life influence the ways we experience and relate with God. I’m interested in the deeper workings of the heart and the slow movements of the Holy Spirit that lead us to becoming more like Christ.
My hope is to provide a safe space to help you pay attention to what God might be stirring in your heart and to ask the questions, “Where is God in this and what is He doing?” As someone who has worked and served in many different ministry and non-ministry settings, I love working with young pastors, leaders in ministry (both lay and staff) and people in the marketplace.
I received my training in Spiritual Direction at the Institute for Spiritual Formation at Biola University where I graduated with a Master of Divinity degree emphasizing in Spiritual Formation. My background also includes a B.S. in Business Administration and B.A. in Human Performance from the University of Southern California.
I’m a member of the Evangelical Spiritual Directors Association and ascribe to their code of ethics. I also serve on staff as a Spiritual Director at Biola University, providing spiritual direction to undergraduate students, seminary students, and staff.
My Journey in Soul Care
Who am I? I don’t know. I guess I have a lot of things to ponder.
~Derek Zoolander
Pondering who I am has been a significant portion of my journey. I’ve lived with many expectations of what life is supposed to look like and have felt the tension as God has taken me on my own unique path. Am I defined by works: how righteous I am, how often I pray or read the Bible? Am I defined by my vocation: what career I hold or the amount of my paycheck? Or is it by my relationships: being a good husband or son or friend?
Through the years, God has reminded me again and again that I am so loved just as I am. My identity is not based on anything I can do or accomplishments I have, but based simply on what God has done, adopting me as His beloved son. There is such freedom in this reality and one that I need to return to daily.
Through varied seasons of wandering through dark caverns, joyous highs, and the contentment of ordinary times, God has cared for my soul in profound and unexpected ways as I have taken one step at a time from pondering who I am to living into His perfect love as I am.
